Grease CostumeJust to get you in the mood I'll give you a quick recap of the Grease movie...

Grease was a 1978 film based on Jim Jacobs' and Warren Casey's musical, Grease.

The film stared John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Eve Arden.

Newton-John's fame also reached new heights after the movie released.

So here is how the movie went... In 1958, during their summer vacation, (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) meet at a beach and begin to fall in love.

Instead of returning to Australia at summer's end, however, Sandy enrolls at Rydell High School as a foreign-exchange student, where Danny is a student. So is Sandy's new friend Frenchy (Didi Conn), a member of the schoolgirl clique "The ".

Danny is the leader of the boys' gang, "The T-Birds". Kenickie, second-in-command of the T-Birds (and Danny's best friend), encourages Danny to tell them about his holiday experiences, while the Pink Ladies likewise persuade Sandy. This results in "Summer Nights."

Encouraged by a preppy school spirit girl, Sandy joins the Rydell cheerleaders. The Pink Ladies decide to reunite Danny and Sandy, but Danny wants to protect his cool image, and his behavior towards Sandy causes her to storm off in tears.

Frenchy attempts to cheer Sandy up by inviting her to a sleepover at her house with the rest of the gang, but Rizzo soon gets fed up with Sandy's goody-two-shoes behavior.

Rizzo lampoons Sandy, singing the sarcastic "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee". When the T-Birds arrive outside Frenchy's house, Rizzo and Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) flirt then leave.

After the party splits up, Sandy decides that she still loves Danny, in spite of everything, and sings "Hopelessly Devoted to You", a poignant love song that was added for the movie and was a big hit as a single. Rizzo's and Kenickie's passionate back-seat love-making is interrupted when the leader of a rival gang, Leo (Dennis Cleveland Stewart) of The Scorpions, and his girlfriend, Cha Cha DiGregorio (Annette Charles), damage Kenickie's car.

Danny meets Sandy at the Frosty Palace, and tries to apologize for his actions. Sandy comes to see if Danny is all right, and they are seemingly reconciled.

Later, Danny takes Sandy to the school's dance, where the TV show National Bandstand plans to broadcast live from the school. When Kenickie asks Cha Cha to the dance, Rizzo retaliates and asks out the rival gang's leader Leo.

During the dance-off, Rizzo leaves in a huff, seeing Kenickie dancing with Cha Cha, and Danny and Sandy are one of the few still in the dance-off. But soon, Sonny pulls Sandy away from Danny, and Cha Cha starts dancing with Danny.

Sandy realizes that Cha Cha was one of Danny's past girlfriends — and a much better dancer. Sandy leaves the gym upset, and Danny and Cha Cha win the contest. Later, Danny takes Sandy to a drive-in movie, apologizes for leaving her, and gives her his class ring. Back in the car, Danny starts trying to make out with Sandy.

Danny laments losing Sandy again, and reveals the true extent of his feelings for her in the song "Sandy" — he is helpless without her.

Because of a mishap before a race in the Los Angeles River, Danny races Leo in of Kenickie's place while Sandy sits on the hill watching. As the T-Birds and Pink Ladies celebrate with Danny, Sandy asks Frenchy's help in winning Danny's heart.

Sandy and Danny fly off in a car and disappear into the sky.

Ok... that's enough about the movie!  How about Grease Costumes for the Halloween holidays?

Here are some Grease Costume ideas for your consideration...

If you ladies are going out together then you can all be pink ladies. You will need a pair or black , sandals, and a baby pink satin jacket. Look for pictures of your hair and remember the sunglasses.

Grease is the era of the poodle skirt so get out your sneakers, cardigan, poodle skirt and put your hair up in a ponytail.

This costume is what Sandy wore at the beginning of the movie. Poodle skirts are available at any costume store or you can visit a vintage store and find an authentic skirt, then go through your wardrobe for a tight top and cardigan.

Click Here... Poodle Skirt for a day?

Click Here... Poodle Skirt for a day?

There is also an additional Sandy costume, the costume she wears at the very end.

For an authentic costume you will need very tight leather pants. Then find a black off the shoulder t-shirt, black leather jacket, very red lips and big hair.

To really complete this grease costume you do need blond hair and if you are not a blond then a wig is a good option.

A Frenchy costume would include a bright pink wig, ink ladies jacket and a pink dress or skirt with blouse.

A Rizzo costume is similar except your skirt and shirt should be black with a pink ladies jacket. Then you will need short dark hair or a Rizzo wig.

There are several options available for guys looking for grease costumes. Usually the first choice is Danny's Costume. This costume is comprised of a leather jacket, white t-shirt, boots and black pants or black jeans.

Styling your hair can be tricky as you need long enough hair to give it a curl over your forhead.

Men can also go by the 50s jock costume. This is a more clean cut look and you will need some type of high school letter jacket. Then just use the jeans from your closet and a white tee.

Another popular Grease costume for men is Eugene. This is more of a nerdy costume so look for high waist pants, a pocket protector and heavy rimmed glasses.

If you are looking for a fancier Grease costume then chose something from the dance competition. These are all 50s style dresses that feature nipped in waists and larger skirts like poodle skirts.

You can dress up as Cha-Cha, Sandy, Rizzo, Frenchy and any other character at the dance.

Here on my blog It's is possible to buy a complete Grease costume. You can get all the clothing and hair pieces you might need on this page.

You can also find additional pieces for a costume if you already have some parts for your costume. For instance... you can buy a pink ladies jacket, wig, greasers jacket and more.

There are Grease Costumes available for both adults, teenagers and children.

Grease costumes are also very easy for teenagers to make their own costumes as you may be able to find great pieces by looking through your parents or grandparents closet.

What are good themes for elementary dances?

I am in charge of coming up with a theme for our kindegarden and 1st grade mommy-son dance. Last year we did 70s and each kid took home a tie dyed shirt. The year before they dressed western and ate BBQ and got a hat. I need a fresh idea that is relatively easy for parents to dress as, and inexpensive to put on. We have very limited time as a parent backed out and I took over at the last minute. 3 weeks!! We have a DJ, and we have food. I need decoration/ that young kids will be familiar with and adults will enjoy. Some ideas we have thrown around so far are:

pirates
superheroes
50's sock hop (i.e. Grease)
prehistoric (cavemen)

any thoughts or comments or other themes?
thanks

andre1 answers:

Hey, Theme dances are always a good time, I used to work at a summer camp for 5 years and we had at least one every session. Of the themes you listed I would go with ether the pirates or super heros. Sock hops just aren't fun for kids these days, they don't get them. Pre-historic could be fun, but you wont get very inventive costumes really. With Pirates or super heros, you can really get imaginative with a costume while keeping appropriate. Some themes that worked well for me that I have used have been beach party themes, Colorful theme (have them dress in their favorite/s colors and you can have odd colored food and such), and another popular one is like a movie theme, where you dress like your favorite actor or actress. That last one might not be great for the age group but its somthing to think about. Those are my thoughts on it, but from your list deffinatly pirtates or superheros.

Paul asks…

Is there a body paint that won't smudge?

For Halloween, I'm planning on a costume that would require me to paint exposed skin -- face and arms. The tricky thing is...this is going to be for a swing dance and I don't want the paint to smudge off on dancing partners!

I've thought about colored liquid latex, but I didn't know if that would tear off if the other person gripped my arm. Grease paint, I'm sure, would be too messy!

Can anyone think of something that won't leave everyone else a mess, but would still look good (no uneven coloration)! :-o

andre1 answers:

Liquid latex is a bad idea. That stuff would only make your skin look funny and shouldn't be applied to very large areas of the skin.

Buy cream make up in whatever color you need then apply some translucent powder or baby powder over it. The powder keeps it from smudging.

Hope I helped! :)

Robert asks…

Costume help? What's missing?

Me and my friend are dressing as Kurt Cobain(Nirvana in the 90s)and Axl Rose(Guns N Roses in the 80s)for Halloween. I am going to be Axl, and she will be Kurt. I've already shown my costume to about 6 people, and they knew exactly who i was and said i looked amazing...i have not seen my friend dressed up yet.
What she has:
Flannel jacket (but its too big for her)
jeans to shred/bleach
a way to grease her hair
dirty , exact length/look as Kurt's
Converse hi-tops
she can play guitar (and nirvana songs)

I have:
Straight, reddish hair, exact length as Axl's
I'm nearly his height
Big sunglasses/shades
Purple bandanna with zebra stripes for my head
tight pants
studded belt
I know GNR lyrics/songs off of "appetite for destruction"
fake tattoo sleeves, since I won't go to the lengths of drawing his actual tattoos.
I've got the "snake dance" down XD
an earring in one ear, but its a gold rose

AND we both are going to walk around like that all Halloween together
and we're going to argue randomly over stupid things....

So can you name off anything we misssed or anything to make us seem more like Kurt and Axl?
NO COBAIN JOKES
(but I'll accept Courtnet Love jokes, lol)

Colossal w/ Stiletto, hot or not?

Kinda long, so bear with me. So for Halloween I am going dress in all black and white, and I am going to do my face all white in white grease make up, kind of like a mime. I am going to be using mascara to make my eyelashes pop out, and that is what I need help with. see, I am a guy that wears makeup, but since I am a guy I tend to go for more neutral looks. I use Lash Stiletto by MNY on a daily basis, and I have never EVER worn any voluminizing mascara.

When I did my dress rehearsal (I do this thing every year were I put on my costume to see how it looks) I felt that the lash stiletto was not giving me the right dramatic look I was looking for. so then I asked my friend and she was like "use it with Colossal" and I was like oookaaaaay.... but I am not sure if Colossal would be my safest bet. I want really long, dramatic eyelashes, so would colossal be a good combo with stiletto, or is there a better product out there? BTW, since I will probably never use the mascara any time soon after Halloween, I don't want to invest a lot of money into it. what do you guys suggest?

SIDE QUESTION: What are YOU going to be for Halloween, if you celebrate the holiday? I am just curious, that's all :) TY for your help!

Ever watched Happy Days ? The girls wore the full skirts just below the knee that flared out while they are dancing. The skirts usually had a poodle on them (the poodle skirt). They wore the white "bobby socks" with their shoes. Scarves tied either around their necks or their ponytails. Button up sweaters over white blouses, usually monogrammed with their initials. Or you could go as a "car hop" and wear a t-shirt with some shorts and some rollerblades . And don't forget the red lipstick !

Do you think this would be a good costume?

Halloween costume from scratch?

My son will be two in december and i really want him to have a cute and somewhat different costume, no puppies, pumpkins, or dinasours so i was thinking of making him a mechanic cause he loves to go outside and work on things with my boyfreind and his dad. I dont really have the money to spend to do this. obviously i have the tools and a little grease to make it look like he has been working but i cant think of what to use for coveralls. my boyfriend has blue coveralls but i cant sew and dont know of anyone that can that well. so i need a plan b, my sister had suggested regular overalls but i was looking to make it a little more realistic looking than that, any ideas?

andre1 answers:

What could be more realistic than overalls? That's what mechanics wear. He's two, and I'm sure he's adorable! You could just put him in , white t-shirt. Add a red handkerchief to his back pants pocket hanging out. Just safety pin it there so that it will stay all night. If he has a hat, then have him wear it backwards. Put a little grease on the side of his cheek and elbows.

2) Red Riding in the Hood: Buy or make a red cape with hood. Have tattoos on your arms, a spiked collar, lots of piercing, etc. And talk tough all night long.
3) Gum under the Table: Make a small cardboard table and wear it on your head. Dress in all pink.

George asks…

My family is planning our big Halloween gathering in our neighborhood. We have about 10-15 family members.?

We want the family's costumes to have theme that would be somewhat easy, that everyone would recognize?? what's a good theme? We have a bon fire and hand out candy, it's somewhat family oriented. Any suggestions would be great! (Not Grease please)

andre1 answers:

Cops and Robbers
Fairy Tale Theme Like Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks
Zoo Theme
Royalty
Roaring 20s
Hillbillies
Flintstone Age

Laura asks…

- which theme should we go with?

My boyfriend and I want to have a halloween/house warming party but we cant decide on a theme!

We've narrowed it down to two themes - which do you think would be better/more fun?

1. Grease - everyone comes as a member of the cast of Grease.
2. Drag - men come dressed as women, women come dresses as men dresses as women - full drag.

What do you think?

I think the Drag party would be more fun but Grease is probably easier!

andre1 answers:

Drag!

Who cares if Grease is easier.
Don't be known for the fun party.
Be known for the Crazy party that everyone will remember!

Drag will get people out of their comfort zone,
and make them let loose away from their everyday lives!

Tha problem is, I have NO IDEA what styles of clothes I'm suspossed to get. Can anyone describe them to me? Or have a link to similar clothes? I have to find outfits by March and I really need help. Please, if you know anything about their clothes let me know!! Thanks!

andre1 answers:

Um, buy some . Plain ones though, in whatever colors you can find... At least one dark colored jean, one kacki, and one black or leather if possible. It's best if they have it so you can roll them up a bit for a long cuff on them, but have them still in the same place they should be. Thats not important though, but capris defintily. ---also known as clamdiggers in some parts of the country.

For shirts, 3/4 sleave sweaters -nicely fitted--make sure you if you only get one of these that it's black so you could use it in the one scene with the leather or black pants, plaid pattern shirts (but not small plaid, like Big chunks of plaid in pastel colors)---tie these in a knot. A mom or an aunt or anyone from the 80's should know two types of knots to tie them in that'll look right.

High heals in fabolous colors.

Also try to find a poodle skirt. Or make your own out of a tulle slip and a long skirt with pleats.

Sandy asks…

What are you being for Halloween ?

Just wondering ! I thought it would be cool to compare costumes and get ideas for future years :) This year me and my friends are being The Pink Ladies and the T-birds from Grease! Please answer ! xoxo

Ken asks…

Burning a shirt for a ?

Now, before you tell me how stupid of an idea this is, let me explain. For this Halloween, I'm gonna dress up to be a dead person. One of the things I'm gonna do is burn and cut an old shirt until it looks like someone could have died in it. Then, I'll do to a pair of pants, buy a cloak, put some grease and dirt on my face, and make the rest of my skin paler with a foundation that's lighter than my skin tone.

So my question is: Do you think this is a good idea?
And: If so, what do you think is the safest way to burn clothing?
Lastly:...............um.......what other things could I do?
I want to save money this year. So I'm trying to buy less.

andre1 answers:

Yes that's a good idea and you can get creative. Like how the person died.I don't think its safe to burn a shirt. You could get fabric paint dirt ashes and other stuff on the the shirt to make the illusion of burnt.Make up a story for your costume. Like the person was burned or was stabbed you get the idea.

Sandra asks…

Greaser for halloween costume?

Hi I'm a 13 year old boy, and I'm wondering how to make a greaser costume.
I know that I would need the plain white shirt, leather jacket and jeans, should I wear a belt aswell?
Also how do I know what grease to put in my hair?
And what things would a Greaser say(Ex. "You cruisin for a bruisin?")

I believe you would wear a belt and your jeans should be cuffed. Your hair should be styled in a pompdour or other tall retro hairstyle with a petrolium based pomade.

Can't help you with some sayings though, sorry.

Halloween costume?

ok, so this halloweenies (hehe) ima be a greaser! yes but i need ideas of what top wear like what kind i shoes, pants, shirt, and stuff and assories ... any ideas? oo what grease should i use?

andre1 answers:

A greaser! Nice idea. You need a white Hanes t-shirt, then fold a pack of cigarettes in your right sleeve. You are shooting for the 50-60's era, so Levi's is a MUST, 501 or button fly is mandatory! Roll them up at the ankle, wear white socks scrunched down, and black loafers. Don;t forget your comb in your back pocket! DO NOT put grease in your hair, use gel instead, it will give you the same look without ruining your sofa or shower. (we all learn the hard way)

Helen asks…

Halloween Costume Ideas (for teens)?

I know it's a little early in the season to be thinking about Halloween Costumes..
but one of my bff's wants to be Daisy Duke for Halloween and our costumes always coordinate...
(There are four of us all together)
For example, one year we were all characters from Candy Land, one year we were Pink Ladies from Grease... etc.
I was thinking we could all be characters from movies or something, but I can't think of any ideas!
Any cute costumes you can think of send mee!
(email: ohhxsoxblond@yahoo.com)
thanks!

andre1 answers:

Since your friend likes the Daisy Duke idea, you could all just be cowgirls. I found a site (see below). They are all different kinds of costumes & styles, although some might be too revealing. The site should give you an idea. There's all indian costumes at the bottom. You could be cowgirls & indians.

I also like the Fanta idea, which was mentioned before. I found a site (see below) where you can do it yourself & it also mentions in the site the 4 different girls.

Or, lastly, I think you could go as superheros (see below): Bat Girl, Elektra, Storm, & , or whatever other superheros you can think of.

Hope this helps! :)
