Your Questions About Grease 2

Mark asks…

how to find and sew black trim onto jacket from ?

I am making my own pink ladies jacket and i have little experience in sewing, but i want to know how to add the black trim from the grease 2 movie. here is a link to the pic. http://www.pfeiffertheface.com/wp-images/2009/01/1982_g2_p01.jpg any ideas?

andre1 answers:

That looks like piping... It's sewn in as the seam is sewn.

If you're trying to add it to a finished jacket, you can somewhat fake it by sewing soutache braid over the seamlines. Here's how to do it with a couching foot, gimping foot or cording foot:

http://www.singerco.com/pdf/CordingSewingMC.pdf

http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk/sewing_machine_info/video/39/couching/braiding

Probably not the best project for a beginner, as any little wobbles will really show up because of the high contrast between the black and the pink. Might want to get some experienced help for that part, or else do a fair amount of practice ahead of the actual project.

How do I get major grease out of my clothes?

I had to clean the grease trap at work, and now my work uniform has grease all over it. I usually dry clean it but it is soaked, and would like to get the grease out of it the best i can before taking it to the dry cleaners. How do I do this? is out of the question, since I cannot afford to shrink my uniform.

Oil Eaters gets grease out of anything and everything. You can buy it at any large hardware store. It's amazing and safe for fabrics!

Chapstick in dryer--stains on clothes?

Hi. I accidentally washed my clothes with Chapstick in one of the pockets, and then it went into the dryer, so now all my clothes from that load have tiny grease/oil stains all over them. Is there anyway I can clean all these at once without having to spot-treat each individual spot? It's a dark load, so bleach won't work. Thanks!
Do you think washing the load with Zout would work? Or how about spot treating them (ugh) and using Dryel? I really don't want to have to pay the dry cleaners. It's like 20 pieces of clothing!

andre1 answers:

My husband is an electrician and the owner of the laundry told me to add 1/2 cup of ammonia with regular dtergent to his work clothes to remove machine oil, etc. I've been using that for years and it works great. It won't discolor your clothes. Actually, I add a small amount occasionally to my regular loads to brighten the color (do not mix with chlorine beach), and use it to wash my bathroom linens...it makes the towels fluffier and more absorbent.

John asks…

on clothes question?

Does anyone know how to remove grease spots of clothes, probably cooking oil? They are easy to remove if you spot them before washing but unfortunately after washing and drying they just won't budge, tried washing and scrubbing the area with no luck. Anyone got any majic tips the clothes are not worth having dry cleaned but have only been worn a few times and are far to good to bin. Thanks!

andre1 answers:

Hi..i would try hand cleaner like the mechanics use. It is cheap and can be bought at Walmart or Canadian tire. Rub it on, let sit for a half hour, then wash as usual. I use it for all kinds of stains, including grease.

Joseph asks…

Trichloroethane is used to remove grease from clothing. How,after use is the solvent separated from grease?

there are four options 1. chromatography. 2. distillation. 3. crystallization. 4. by filtration.
if you can, can you explain why you choose that answer.

andre1 answers:

There are 2 compounds that fit the name “Trichloroethane”

1,1,2-Trichloroethane
[CHCl2CH2Cl]
Bpt. 110-115 °C
This has been used as a solvent but is now considered far too toxic for this purpose.

1,1,1-Trichloroethane
[CCl3.CH3]
Bpt. 74°C

I think 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is the solvent you are talking about.

Since the boiling point is only 74°C , the to separate the solvent from grease is by DISTILLATION

Chromatography would be too expensive and very cumbersome.

Recrystallisation is impractical since the solvent has a melting point of -33 °C

Filtration will only remove particulate matter. If will not remove the grease which is in solution.

*********************
NOTE:
The Montreal Protocol targeted 1,1,1-trichloroethane as one of those compounds responsible for ozone depletion and banned its use beginning in 1996. Since then, its manufacture and use has been phased out throughout most of the world.

My room mate accidentally washed my clothing along with his oily/greasy work clothes. He didn't realize until it was dry. So I need to know how in the world you remove these unsightly stains. Thanks for answering! :)

andre1 answers:

The best I have ever used (on grease stains, too!) was George Forman's Knockout! Simply the best spray and wash stain remover on the market these days. Gojo is a good one, also (usually meant for greasy hands). As far as using coke as a stain remover: wouldn't that stain it more?

Sandra asks…

How do you get car/ bike grease off clothing and shoes?

andre1 answers:

Grease from Clothing
To remove a black grease stain from clothing, try saturating the stain with rubbing alcohol, then blot with a clean white cloth. If the stain persists, try using a grease cutting dish detergent, such as Dawn, and rub with a soft toothbrush. Another option, although it seems crazy, is to soak the soiled area overnight in a solution of detergent, Coca-Cola and water. Launder as usual. Good Luck! =)

How to remove old from painted wall?

The painted wall next to our stovetop has quite a few grease spatters, some small, some older ones that are quite large (almost droplets). What's the best cleaning product to remove these?

We will soon be painting the wall. If there is a primer that will just cover these grease spots and save me a step, that would be great!
Sorry, Lord Malachi, but Windex has not cut the grease. Tried it. Nada.

The only affective cleanser for greasy walls is TSP. Can be found at most hardware stores. Follow the directions. Painters use this to prep walls before painting

andre1 answers:

Try putting the shirt in with . Dish soap repels oil. Put soap directly on the stain and work with your fingers. Do it from both sides of the material and rinse in cold water. Let the shirt air dry to see if the stain is gone. Do not put the shirt in the dryer until the stain is gone because the dryer will make it permanent.

Does any one know how to get food grease stain from clothes.?

Hi
Does any one know how to get food grease stains out of clothing? I tried soaking in in detergent and scrubbing it by hand but it didn't work..

andre1 answers:

Try to mitigate the grease stain as soon as possible without letting it "set". Anything that dissolves grease is a candidate including plain soap, naptha soap, solvents like naptha ( lighter fluid ), carbon tetrachloride etc that can be tried. Proctor & Gamble has an ultrasound gadget combined with liquid cleaner that can usually get the stains out when other things don't work.

Don't soak a stained garment blindly without monitoring the progress. Even soap often works when you apply, rub, look, and repeat.

I think something is wrong with my , please read details.?

Everytime I get any white clothes out of my washing machine they have stains on them that look like grease marks, it keeps happening and I think it must be something to do with my washing machine, or maybe something I use with the wash. I use the yellow Comfort (fabric softener) and Arial excel tabs (green box). Does anybody have any ideas of why this is happening?

Thankyou.

andre1 answers:

Could be oil leaking from the motor inside the washer.
I had the same problem last year I had black streaks on my clothes after Id washed them.
I was told it was expensive to repair and as my washer was about 9ys old it wasnt worth it. I bought a new one.

Michael asks…

I need HELP on how to fix my Kenmore Washing Machine! Please.?

My washing machine will not spin clothes. Its like it trys to spin, but it wont. It smells like Hot metal and grease.

I have already:
1. Replaced the clutch
2. Replaced the transmission
3. Checked the lid switch. (it works)
4. Checked for clothes under the tub. (none)

And last year I replaced the Motor Coupler, and it is still working.
So my question is What else could it be?
It drains the water, but it just dosent spin the clothes. It sounds like it is trying to(hints the Hot metal and grease smell) spin the clothes, but the tub dosent move. and if you spin it with your hand it will spin like 1-1 1/2 turns, and then stops.

andre1 answers:

It sounds like either the basket drive assembly is not releasing or the drive block is allowing the bottom of the inner tub to scrape against the outer tub and the drive block is worn away where the two ears of the basket drive tube protrude. If you checked for clothing under the inner tub did you pull the inner tub out of the machine? If you did so without removing the tub nut that is where your problem is. The piece that the tub nut screws on which is shaped sort of like the Gemini space capsules is worn and needs to be replaced. If the ears of the basket drive tube are bent or misshapen(they should be flat not rounded) the basket drive must be replaced as well.

Nancy asks…

What should I do about this situation with my parents?

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure where to begin, but, I've had a lot of troubles with my parents, lately. I'll start with the basics: I'm 21 years old, a full time university student, get relatively good grades, try my hardest, and also have a bunch of medical conditions (mostly, lupus).

My parents are always picking at me for various reasons, and, whenever I do/say something wrong, my Dad always brings up the fact that he wants me to move out. I'm not sure what to do, because, I really can't afford to move out! I'm not well enough to study AND work, so, I don't have many options. I have an older brother, who's 28, and lives with this girlfriend, and all of my friends still live at home.

My parents main complaint is that I go to bed too late for my health (1 am or so). I was about to begin studying tonight, when we got into a really big argument (Dad brought it up again). He said, to stop me from going to bed late, he wants to confiscate my phone from 11 pm onwards.

I told him that I'm too old to have my phone confiscated, so, he took away my car keys and said that he'd cancel my phone all together in the morning.

I also found out that my parents have betrayed my trust in many ways. They have been whining about me to mutual friends, have been reading through the numbers I've called on my mobile phone bill, and have also reduced one of my medications, without telling me. I'm sure there's other things, too! I just don't know about them.

For that reason, I said give me until the morning to give you my phone, so I can call up my provider , and, ask to have a PIN code put on my phone.

My parents have told me that I'm tearing about the family, and that my Dad will retire if I don't start going to bed earlier. They said, we'll sell our house, move into a smaller one, and they won't have the money to continue sending me to university.

My parents are always telling me to respect them, and, do what they tell me to. So, I said to them that we really should view each other as equals. They denied that, and said that as long as they are managing the bills and earning the money, we're not equals. I then said, that we're equals on more of a "moral" ground, but, they didn't listen to that.

My Mum was then going on about something to do with trust, and, I told her to "shut up" considering all of the times she's broken my trust. My parents always tell me to "shut up", and, actually use much worse words, too!

Telling Mum to "shut up", apparently wasn't okay, and my Dad slapped me across the face, twice. I ran to my room and he chased after me and backed me into a corner. He slapped me a couple more times, and then picked me up by the collar and shook me.

I greased my Mum off when she came in, and then she slapped me, too.

For the rest of the night, they kept referring to me as "it".

I don't know what to do, but, I'm really upset. They just tell me that I think I always know best, which isn't the case.

I'd actually planned a really nice Mother's Day for Mum, and made her up a huge hamper and spent $150 on it (of my own money), but, yesterday they kept telling me how I need to find a boyfriend and move out, so, I decided not to give it to her.

It's just sitting in my wardrobe now, and Mum said "oh, THERE'S my present".

Are my parents abusing me? What can I do about my situation? I can't move out.

Thank you.

andre1 answers:

Move out and do it on your own. Sounds like your parents all but wipe your backside for you as it is.

And they're right- you live in their house, eat their food, they pay for your phone, your medication, and your school. You need to be respectful of what your parents' rules are, or get out and take care of yourself. Grow up.

andre1 answers:

Hello,

I have been trying to guess why your Parents, your Dad especially, want you to move out. I know you said, they want you to go to bed earlier because of your health, but they seem critical of you in so many other ways that one wonders if there is more to it.

How do you think their marriage is going? Are they both happy, - I mean, suppose you did move out, how happy do you think they'd be then? Do you think they still have a sex life? Is it possible that you are a convenient target for your Dad to discharge anger, - anger which he would really like to direct against your Mum/ his own job/ his own health? Do you think your Dad has a mistress, or your Mum a lover? Do they have real money worries? Are you able to make any contribution towards the family finances, you say you have your own money?

Did things used to be better? If so, when did they change for the worse, and for what reason, do you know?

I don't know what sort of "social class" (for want of a better word), you are in. In some social classes it might have been acceptable for a Father to hit or beat his daughter, at least in days gone by. These days, however, - at least in the UK, - this hitting would be a big NO NO. As well as unacceptable, it is of course illegal, (it is "common assault," or "actual bodily harm," - and so criminal). You use the word abuse, - did your Father abuse you physically in the past?. Er, sexually?

There is a lamentable, general human tendency to victimize or bully the weak. Do you think your Lupus makes you "weak," and so bully-able? Does anyone else criticize or bully you?

Are you vulnerable to criticism for any other reason? Do you get depressed? Is your sexuality "conventional?"

Would you move out if you could? Suppose someone gave you a huge sum of money, would you move out then? Do you have ambitions to be independent, or to be married, or to have children?

We are ( I mean, I am ) assuming that you want to move out, but this might not be true. You could have good reasons other than financial, to want to stay. Your health, for example. What do envisage happening after you graduate from University? - do you see your Parents as your "lifetime carers," - no offense? : )

I hope this is of some help.

Best wishes,

Belliger

I think that deep down they love you but they're not great at expressing this love, they are used to being... Well, mean. I bet you're not the only one they're being mean to.
My personal recommendation is moving out and after moving out trying to sort out things with them.
You need time to breathe and this is the short-term view. After you do this, you will have the space and peace of mind to consider a long term approach.
Whatever you do, don't get down. Some people just aren't cut out to be nice to people, even if it's family. What matters the most is that you are OK and because you have lupus you need to be calm. Imagine yourself (you can get a roommate for sure!) in a nice apartment, making your own meals, paying your own bills, doing whatever you would like to do.
Also, maybe that roommate will become a good friend to you as you most certainly need one to help you sort things out.
I know you said you can't move out, but I think this "can't" is more psychological than an actual issue. You need to empower yourself!

Thank you.

This is tough, because at 21 you are an adult and you wanted to be treated so, but you are living in THEIR house, THEY are paying for your education, rent, food, phone, etc. So you do owe them respect. You will never be equal with your parents, especially while you are living with them, because THEY are the parents. (it sucks, i know)
I have lupus also, and I know the symptoms can be awful. But maybe you should try to start working part time, and push yourself and see how much you can handle. Start saving money so you can try to move out, even if you have to rent a room from someone, or find roommates. Getting out from your parents is the greatest freedom!
When you have lupus it is important to live a healthy life style so you can manage your symptoms, and I found that by taking really good care of myself I could do everything that everybody else can do. I hate to say it, but they are probably right about you staying up to late. Early to bed and early to rise makes you healthy!

Drama Class: Lip syncing to from Grease?

If I'm one of the background girls that says "Tell me More" what gestures can I do? Some that may involve different levels, like on the ground, on my knees, or standing up. Any ideas of how I should dress? Thanks.

andre1 answers:

I mean, you should take some pointers from the movie, but also it helps to watch what other people have done for their rendition of songs from Grease. I think there's some stuff on YouTube? Look it up. And, just do whatever you feel goes along with the music, remember you're a loving kid, and everyone loves to make fun of Eugene. :)

Ideas for an awesome lemonade stand!?

I am going to make a Lemonade stand next to a strand of beach shops next to a beach and two tourist attractions and landmarks. Do you guys have any tips on how to spaz it up a bit? I was thinking that I could make a theme a 50's theme for example I would call it Be-Boppin Homemade Lemonade and play Grease music in the background and dress up in a . Do you guys have any cool ways to make the best, creative lemonade stand ever?
Also, how much money did you make with your lemonade stand?
What are some other good Themes?
I think I'm going to do Hollywood as the theme

andre1 answers:

Make it 70's themed. Have the sign above the stand with bead strands hanging from the sign. Also have a lava lamp sitting on the counter. And make the lemonade different colors like hot pink and blue and bright green. Dress Like a hippie.

Susan asks…

LATE 50's make-up?

Make-up for a fancy dress party, I'm going as one of the Pink Girls from Grease and thought of maybe doing some 60's design, but I don't think it'd look as good going over board than going for something more realistic.

Any ideas?

How do you get chicken grease out of clothes?

andre1 answers:

Do you have a house cleaner around your house. Like windex, 409, fantastic spray.

Those products have ammonia in them. They are good with grease. Spray on the spot.
Some old lady told me this years ago. My own mother swears by this.

how do u remove oli (grease) from clothes?

how do u remove oli from clothes? this site said "To remove oil or grease stains off clothing, rub with un-salted lard and wash as usual. " but is there anyother way please help..

andre1 answers:

Option 1: Sprinkle some cornstarch or baking soda on the stain, then place the garment, stain side down, on a large rag on top of an ironing board. Iron with a hot iron on the wrong side of the stain --most oil and grease stains will come right out. (This trick works only for oil and grease, which need heat to dissolve.)

Option 2: Apply an absorbent such as talcum powder or cornstarch to the affected area, then brush away. If the stain is heavy or old, place stain facedown on paper towels. Blot back of stain with a dry-cleaning solvent. Replace paper towels as they soak up the stain. Spray with laundry pretreatment. Wash in the hottest water that's safe for the garment. Air dry.

How do you get out of clothing?

I was at a fish fry at a Catholic parish yesterday, and I must have leaned against a table where someone spilled sour cream, because when I got home I discovered it was all over my clothes. I washed them normally, but the dark grease spot is still visible. Is there any way to get it out?

andre1 answers:

I got Genesis 950 at a car repair shop where they use it to clean transmissions, remove tar grease and oil from tools, floors and clothing. It is an all purpose degreaser that works better then any cleaner I have used. You use it with a little bit of water and a sponge and it will actually break the bonds which make the stain adhere to your clothes without damaging anything. You can also order it online at www.amerikalstore.com

I used it to clean stains from A1 Steak Sauce and tomato soup. You may want to try it.

How to remove pizza grease from clothing?

I was eating a slice and I mistakenly dropped oil on my khakis. How do I remove the oil from my pants? I've tried putting on it (mom told me to do it) but the spot is still there. I put the powder on immediately after it happened. What else can be used?

andre1 answers:

Try the Dawn, launder and check the spot before putting it in the dryer. If the Dawn doesn't work, any good laundry stain remover should do the trick. I use Spray N' Wash a lot. Another one that's good on greasy stains is Simple Green. In either case, let the product soak on the stain at least a couple hours if not overnight.
